"Alcohol is like love: the first kiss is magic, the second is intimate, the third is routine. After that you just take the girl's clothes off." Raymond CHANDLER
I'm a big Chandler and Marlow fan. Marlow's cynicism towards people and life is refreshing, as he tells it like it is.
Okay, favorute song lyric is from The Pearl Jam song Indifference.....
"I will hold the candle till it burns up my arm Oh, I'll keep takin' punches until their will grows tired Oh, I will stare the sun down until my eyes go blind Hey, I won't change direction, and I won't change my mind"
Favorite saying is a toss up between "Why, oh, why didn't I take the blue pill" and "I'm the person your mother warned you about".
May favorite quote is from Robin Williams...... "You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it."
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity...and I'm not sure about the universe. - Albert Einstein
What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters to what lies within us. - Ralph Waldo Emerson
and in honor of the day ...
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness, in a descending spiral of destruction. The chain reaction of evil must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation. - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
And there's Robin Williams' quote, "Instead of getting married and then getting divorced, why don't you just buy a house for someone you really don't like."
I need to be workin over here, but I'm escaping a nervous breakdown, the only other guy in my Dept. just gave his 2 week notice this morning, BOOM, right out of the blue. NOW it will be the Lone Fish.
So, I need some quotes to carry me through here.
whew.
Laughter is an instant vacation - Milton Berle
It is so easy to waste our lives: our days, our hours, our minutes..... It is so easy to exist instead of live.- Anna Quindlen
One more, for now, I got a million of 'em!
I like living. I have smetimes been wildly, despairingly, acutely misreable, racked with sorrow, but throughvit all I still know quite certainly that just to be alive is a grand thing. - Agatha Christie
I've posted this on my blog before, but these are my all-time favorite lyrics from Lithium Sunset, by Sting. They are very comforting to me when life is sucking.
Heal my soul Oh, lithium sunset Take this lonesome burden Of worry from my mind
Take this heartache Of obsidian darkness And fold my darkness Inside your yellow light
Heal my soul Oh, lithium sunset And I'll ride the turning world Into another night
My favorite sign at work: We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, for so long, with so little, that we are now qualified to do anything with nothing."
My favorite phrase in college was one from a t-shirt I used to own. "Ne te confundant illegitimi" - which supposedly was Latin for "Don't let the bastards get you down." Turns out it's pretty mangled Latin (in case anyone out there feels like correcting me.)
Boy, I've been missing a lot of questions lately! I'll have to check in more often.
Anyone that has been to my blog knows mine, but I'll repost it here and what it means to me.
"There is no avoiding war; it can only be postponed to the advantage of others" --Niccolo Machiavelli
First, I LOVE Machiavelli's 'The Prince'. Almost 500 years old and it's insight into the minds of politics and power is incredibly poignant today.
Basically, to me, the quote means not to avoid conflict of any sort. Physical, emotional, mental. The longer you put it off, the worse position you are going to be in to deal with it.

It's a toss up between "Your mileage may vary" and "Then there's the whole pen!s thing."
But on the serious side, um... tough to narrow that down. I'll have to think about it.
fumxd - yeah, I'm fumxd trying to come up with one.
So try two-line quotes ... :)
anyhoo ... I am a huge fan of quotes ... (big surprise) ... some of my favorites ...
"You'll learn more about a road by travelling it than by studying all the maps in the world"
"In the end you will regret the things you didn't do ... more than the things you did"
"It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."
"Every woman should know when to try harder and when to walk away"
oh and ...
"that's what she said"
I am also a big fan of quotes. They seem to say exactly what I'm thinking or feeling in as few words as possible. I tend to go on and on and on and...
Well, you get the idea!
Other than various quotes, the Serenity Prayer is a big one for me...
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
zoodle ... the serenity prayer pretty much sums up my life.
serenity to accept ...
courage to change ...
wisdom to know when to do which.
Doesn't get much simpler than that.
There are so many! Probably this one, by mystery writer Catherine Aird:
If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.
It's been my mantra for years.
I love quotes too.
Eleanor reminded me of this one last week:
Wish I didn't know now
What I didn't know then.
Then there's:
"Work like you don't need the money,
love like you've never been hurt, and
dance like no one is watching"
Why do I keep getting "web site not responding"? - by the way, NOT a favorite quote
If wishes were horses
then beggars would ride...
My web site is problematic ... I'll give it a good ass kickin' ... that should fix it.
I love this quote from Raymond Chandler:

How could I forget ...

Favorite quote:
I love you.

- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luter King's "I Have a Dream" speech was kinda cool.
"You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.
You shall be together when white wings of death scatter your days.
Aye, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.
But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.
Love one another but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music. "
-Kahlil Gibran
And there's Robin Williams' quote, "Instead of getting married and then getting divorced, why don't you just buy a house for someone you really don't like."
"Outside of a dog a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read."

graz: your quote reminds me of the Jimmy Buffett song, "We Are the People Our Parents Warned Us About."
I was listening to the original cast album of Funny Girl and this caught my ear:
"When a girl's incidentals
Are no bigger than two lentils,
Then to me that doesn't spell success."
And one more from Groucho:
I sent the club a wire stating, PLEASE ACCEPT MY RESIGNATION. I DON'T WANT TO BELONG TO ANY CLUB THAT WILL ACCEPT ME AS A MEMBER.
Groucho Marx

Brian B's quote is one of my most favorite too! As he knows, I go to his blog every morning, read it, nod, and then get on with my day. :)

"We were once so close to heaven, Peter came out and gave us medals, declaring us the nicest of the damned." - They Might Be Giants.
But I got a million, too.
oops - that was cbol on the TMBG quote.
"Live. Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death." --Aunti Mame
"Oh, you hate your job? Why didn't you say so? There's a support group for that. It's called EVERYBODY, and they meet at the bar." --Drew Carey
Shoulda would coulda...I love you„although. 3 can keep a secret if 2 are dead.
